Councillor’s Corner

August 2010

So some good news recently for Lyonville residents as the Victorian Bushfire Recovery Comittee recommendations for bushfire recovery grants are finally announced resulting in approximately $11 000 being allocated to the Lyonville Hall. I am told that the money will either be used for a toilet facilities upgrade or for a kitchen upgrade, either of which would add significantly to the amenity of the hall.

On another note, for all those who have signed the petition for better mobile and email coverage out there, the Central Highlands Regional Mayors and CEO's forum  have an online questionnaire going around that will shape the internet and communications priorities for the region. You can find the survey at http://www.cecc.com.au/cb_pages/CH_ICT_home.php . it's a bit onerous, but hey, hopefully it is worth it.

All the best Lyonvillians!

October 2009

September has seen some progress on road grading with Swabys and Huttons Lanes being graded in the last week. A great relief for residents after upto 10 years without a grading. These roads are unfortunately not the only ones that have missed out on the Shire’s yearly grading schedule and a number of small back roads have become quite neglected over the years. A number of people have approached me about these roads and I have referred them to the Service Request Program. This program is the best way to have your voice heard in reference anything to do with the day to day of council operations, eg. Potholes, roads, gutters, street trees, fuel reduction in town areas etc.

Requests to the service request program can be addressed to the following contacts:

Hepburn Shire Service Request Program                                                                                                       (03) 5348 1577

Cnr. Duke and Albert Street                                                                                                        Fax: (03) 5348 2911

Written requests are a better method than phone calls as the request must be responded to in writing. You should receive in the response a statement of where and why your request has been placed in the priority list of scheduled works. This is the best way to get your request heard.

Also if you have got a road that has not been graded in the past year, please email me at sklein@hepburn.vic.gov.au or call me on 0428 33 11 73. I am attempting to get a picture of how successful council’s commitment to annual grading on all gravel roads has been and to gather a body of cases where council needs to catch up. While it is difficult for me to represent every individual issue, I think there may be enough examples of roads that have been left behind for me to represent them as a whole.

Enjoy the growing season!
